Honor Your Loved One With a Celebration

Honoring your loved one after their cremation service doesn’t have to be sad and solemn. Learn how you can pay tribute with an upbeat celebration of life event.

Are you looking for a way to honor your loved one after their cremation services in Moorpark, CA.? While a traditional memorial service might be a great fit for some families, those who wish for something a little different might consider a celebration of life service.

What is a Celebration of Life Service?

These celebration of life events are a newer trend but growing rapidly in popularity. With funeral and memorial services often focusing on the life lost and the passage from life to death, celebration of life services are just as they sound; celebrations of life. At these events you may hear laughter, see people joking and smiling, and feel as if you are more at a party than a “service”.

Where Do These Events Take Place?

With celebration of life events being more secular and upbeat in nature, the locations they can be held can be just about anywhere. These celebrations have taken place in spaces like restaurants, public parks, amusement parks, sports stadiums, pubs, family homes and more.

What is the Order of Service?

Since celebration of life events are a newer type of service, there aren’t as many rules or social norms that need to follow as with other services. This means that families can choose to plan their event any way they wish.

Some families may want to keep some type of order to the event and plan an outline that includes things such as a welcome, music selection, readings, eulogies, and more. Other families may wish to have no order whatsoever and have it feel more like a party. Yet other families may choose a combination of the two.

Celebration of Life Ideas

Choosing what to do and where to hold your event is entirely up to you. To inspire you, some fun ideas include:

  • Hire a band to play live music
  • Make a campfire to gather around
  • Have a butterfly release or dove release
  • Have a firework display
  • Create a themed event
  • Release sky lanterns or blow bubbles
  • Hold the event in a unique location such as on a boat or at a campground
  • Ask guests to bring a dish they made for a potluck
  • Have an open mic where guests can take turns reciting poems, singing songs, or sharing a favorite memory

When to Hold the Event

Sine the body has already been disposed by cremation, celebration of life events can be held anytime. It is entirely appropriate to have them soon after the cremation as well as months later. Some families may choose to wait so that they can have the time and flexibility to plan a truly unique evet. Also, holding the event later can allow those who live out of town time to make travel and work arrangements to be able to attend.
